Muchila Access Project
The Muchila Access Project (MAP) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation aimed at providing access to maternal and dental health, nutrition, education, and microeconomic services to families living in Muchila, a rural and geographically isolated settlement in Southern Africa.
Funds raised will be used to support the joint priorities of the village leadership and community. The leaders in the Chiefdom have prioritized the needs of Muchila as water, health care (in particular maternal health), education (especially for orphaned children who live with extended family members) and microfinance assistance to help the women who have handicraft skills generate family income.
Board Members
John is Professor Emeritus and Director Special Projects and Global Service Learning at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. Dr Morgan has expertise in hospital dentistry, public health initiatives, and the development and management of oral health access programs for vulnerable populations domestically and abroad. Dr. Morgan has been working to build oral health prevention and disease management programs in Zambia since 2004.
Patricia is the former Executive Vice President of Tufts University, a position she held since 2007 having previously served in senior administrative and finance positions in Boston nonprofit organizations and in government in New York State. She currently serves as the Chancellor at the University of Rwanda. Patricia has two master’s degrees one in Public Health from Tufts Medical School. She has traveled and volunteered extensively with service projects in Africa. Additional volunteer activities include serving on the Tufts Medicine Board of Directors.
Sarah holds two Master’s degrees in Public Health and Social Work from Boston University and is passionate about addressing healthcare disparities among vulnerable populations. In her current position at Health Leads, she serves as the Director of Programs for the Massachusetts region. She has a wide range of experience in healthcare education and in community organizations in both research and direct client care programs at Cambridge Health Alliance, Action for Boston Community Development, and Boston Medical Center. During her undergraduate career at St. Lawrence University she studied abroad in Nairobi, Kenya where she focused on healthcare in developing countries..
Gerard Kugel, DMD, MS, PhD, is Dean of the UNMC College of Dentistry and a professor in the Department of Adult Restorative Dentistry. With an expertise in clinical research and esthetic dentistry, he is a reviewer for The New England Journal of Medicine, JADA, The Journal of Esthetic and Restorative Dentistry and The Journal of Dental Education. He is on the Editorial Board of The Journal of Cosmetic Dentistry, Compendium and Inside Dentistry, where he is Editor Emeritus. He is a Fellow in the Academy of General Dentistry and the Academy of Dental Materials. Dr. Kugel has his PhD in Dental Materials and earned his Executive Certificate in Management and Leadership from the Sloan School of Management at MIT. He has spent 40 years in private practice in Boston and has a Professor Emeritus appointment at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine.
Joseph Krajekian, DMD. MD. FAAOMS, DABOMS. is board certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon. Dr. Krajekian attended dental school at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. Following his DMD degree, he obtained his medical doctor degree, MD., at Drexel College of Medicine and completed his 6 year surgical training at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. He served as an academic faculty at the prestigious Cleveland Clinic Head and Neck Institute, an associate clinical facility at Case Western School of Dental Medicine and visiting lecturer at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Boston, MA. Dr. Krajekian is well versed in all aspect of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery with great emphasis in utilizing the most advance surgical techniques and technologies. Dr. Krajekian is one of the few surgeons across the world utilizing virtual reality (VR) in his major reconstructive surgeries. He also serves as an medical advisor for creating VR surgical protocols. He has numerous publications in various aspect of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and currently serves as editor for the various national and international medical journals including Wiki How medical advisory board. He has extensive volunteer experience in Central and South American and is eager to bring his surgical experience to Africa.
